Breathwork is a conscious breathing practice rooted in ancient traditions and supported by modern science, used to influence both mental and physiological states.

Its origins can be traced to practices such as yogic pranayama and other meditative breathing techniques developed thousands of years ago to cultivate awareness, regulate energy, and support well-being.

Today, breathwork integrates these time-tested methods with insights from neuroscience, psychology, and somatic therapy.

By intentionally altering the rhythm, depth, and pace of the breath, breathwork directly influences the nervous system, helping shift the body from a state of stress or hypervigilance into one of regulation and balance.

This process can support emotional release, reduce stress, improve focus, and deepen self-awareness by engaging the body’s natural capacity for self-regulation.

Through the breath, we gain access to an internal mechanism that bridges body and mind, offering a practical and powerful pathway to both immediate relief and long-term resilience.

What is Breathwork?

My Approach

I am trained in the Holosomatic approach (300+hrs.), a trauma-informed and integrative method that brings together science, somatic awareness, and spirituality in a way that respects the diversity of human experience. I am also certified in traditional pranayama practices (50+hrs.), honoring the origins of breathwork and the depth of knowledge carried through these long-standing practices.

My sessions thoughtfully combine evidence-based modern breathwork techniques with traditional pranayama, supported by music and somatic practices. Each element is offered with flexibility, allowing participants to engage in ways that feel supportive, accessible, and aligned with their individual bodies, identities, and lived experiences.

Every session is intentionally designed to be trauma-informed and inclusive, honoring personal boundaries, different nervous system needs, and varying levels of experience.
The focus is on creating a welcoming, non-judgmental environment where safety, choice, and consent are prioritized, and where exploration, release, and connection can unfold at each person’s own pace.

I offer a range of breathwork styles to meet people where they are:

  • Psychedelic – deep, expansive states of consciousness

  • Meditative – slow, grounding, and introspective

  • Energetic – powerful activation and release

  • Trauma-Release – gentle and trauma-informed

  • Shamanic – ceremonial, rhythmic, and ancestral

  • Traditional Pranayama – rooted in yogic wisdom

Above all, my intention is to make breathwork accessible to everyone.

Exhalewithsophie is a space for diversity, shared learning, and mutual respect - where everyone is welcome and where self-exploration can happen within a safe, supportive community.
